How to Manage Devices and Printers in Windows 7?

In the previous version of Windows, device management was very hard. You had to open the Control Panel or My computer etc for managing the different functions of a single device. The Devices and Printers applet in Control Panel allows the user to manage devices and printers in Windows 7 very easily. This feature provides just one doorway to manage all sorts of devices whether they are multifunction or single-purpose.
The dialog box of Devices and Printers consists of two parts: the “devices” section and the “printers and faxes” section.
Generic images are shown for all the devices and printers on the computer. You can also view the properties of a device if you select it in the Devices and printers window. Here is an example:
Managing devices in the Device section:
Like the previous versions, the easy way to manage Devices and Printers in Windows 7 is by right-clicking on the icon of the specific device in the Devices section.
If you want to manage a device on your computer, e.g. the mouse, you have to follow these steps:
Click Start.
  • Type Devices and Printers in the search box of the Start menu.
  • Right-click on the icon of mouse in the Device section.
  • You will see options in the right-click menu. Windows 7 opens the properties list for all the devices. Choose the “mouse settings” option.
A dialog box of “Mouse Properties” will appear. Now you can do button configuration, choose the double-click speed by dragging the slider etc. After you are done with changing the settings, click the Apply button.
Hence, it is very easy to manage the Devices and Printers in Windows 7.
Managing Printers and Multifunction Devices in the Printers and Faxes Section:
The feature of managing all the functions of printers was available in the former versions of Windows. But it is much easier to manage devices and printers in Windows 7. If you want to manage a printer on your computer, follow these steps:
Click Start.
Type Devices and Printers in the search box of the Start menu.
Right-click on the printer you want to manage. You will be given the following options in order to manage it.
If you want to manage a multi-function device, you can manage it in the same way. Only when you right-click on it, you will be given a list of the additional features of the device, like scanning functions and support for removable media. These can be managed or launched.
If you use Devices and Printers to access and manage the devices and printers in Windows 7, you can save a lot of your time.
